about

These songs were written and performed between 2010-2013.

Recorded between 2010-2014.

Mixed/mastered between 2010-2020.

Junta existed mainly for the purpose of disrupting the hardcore/emo/punk/ska trope of the suburban teenage music scene, and was really just something we did for fun. We made a few albums, fully diy style, and had some great band hangs and trips. These are all some of my favorite people on this album and surrounding this band. As we grew older and had our own lives and new musical outlets, this album sat on my hard drive, pretty much fully recorded but not mixed as it should be.

I would tweak it about once each spring for 6 or 7 years, waiting for a time that felt right to put the finishing touches on it. Lo and behold, it's spring 2020, and we're all stuck inside.

I secretly have always wanted to just slide this onto the internet for no reason, but then I'd talk myself out of it. I'd end up feeling like I needed a reason or meaning for its existence. But now that we all have some time to keep to ourselves, I feel like there is actually a need to create things for no reason, which is pretty much what Junta always was at its core. There was no sculpting of pop songs for mass appeal (do I even need to say that), no image control or social media campaigning, few band photos, and barely any advertising or trying to be a real band. But who cares, and so here it is. The last Junta album.
